As NAIDOC week wraps up for another year, the team at Kooyar Wongi are reflecting on the importance of this year’s theme, not just during NAIDOC week, but every day. We feel honoured to be able to work in a space where we can help keep the fire burning, alongside so many others who have dedicated their lives to this space, through teaching, yarning, advocating, leading, sharing and building understanding.
The joy it gives Bill to work alongside the younger ones in his family – especially his daughter Summer – and to promote the amazing work done by his own family mentors, Elders and leaders (like Aunty Vivienne Hansen – one of her books pictured below) to ensure that Nyungar culture, boodja and kaatitjin is celebrated and valued is what helps him keep his own fire burning.
